TWiRT 185 - Mitch Glider - Network Ops and Big Remotes

Most radio engineers look after 1 to 8 program channels; Mitch Glider oversees 67 of them! As VP-Engineering for Westwood One in New York City, Mitch directs the technical operations for Westwood One in the CBS Broadcast Center. Plus, Mitch is preparing a roomful of radio mixing and transmission gear for the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics. It has to work when it gets there in January, 2014, and there’s no Radio Shack nearby. Chris Tobin and Tom Ray – both experienced radio network engineers – join me to talk with Mitch Glider on this episode.

TWiRT 184 - Engineering for the Stars

What does an engineer do when Bill O’Reilly starts arguing politics you, or Dan Rather hands you a screwdriver? Or when WOR’s John Gambling won’t rest easy until you arrive on-scene? It’s part of a day’s work for big city and network radio engineers. Tom Ray and Chris Tobin regale us with hilarity and insight about working with high-strung stars and ordinary folks with household names.

TWiRT 183 - Greg Shay on the New AES67 IP-Audio Standard

The Audio Engineering Society just published AES67, a framework to standardize low-latency IP-Audio and provide for interoperability. What will this new standard mean for users of Axia Livewire, Wheatnet-IP, Dante, Ravenna, and others? Greg Shay, Chief Science Officer with The Telos Alliance, describes how the different IP-Audio standards came to be, and how AES67 (formerly X192) will mean more good choices for IP-Audio network users.

TWiRT 182 - School Board or Paint Drying?

Westwood One reprise, syndication bullies, “do you wanna move back?”, and the best tips and tricks. Plus, we suggest that the school board meeting should compete with the sound of paint drying. It’s a potpourri show that turned out really well!
